Frank A. Petrouskie, Sr., 95, died peacefully on May 7, 2022, joining the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Joan. He was the loving and devoted father of Kathleen Shedlock, Frank A. Petrouskie, Jr., and Thomas Petrouskie and proud and cherished grandfather of Pamela (John) Herrington, Alison Gorbatov (Kenneth), Matthew and Daniel Petrouskie. He delighted in and was adored by his great-grandchildren Bradley and Abigail Herrington and Nicholas and Juliette Gorbatov. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Helen Phillips, and great-nephew, Brandon Phillips, and is survived by his niece, Pat (Joseph) Ross, nephew John (Lanee) Phillips, and great-niece, Lisa Galati, great-nephew, Michael Phillips, great-great niece, Olivia Phillips and great-great-nephew, Dominic Galati.
Born, a coal miner’s son in Girardsville, PA, his life exemplified courage and hard work with dedication to family, God, and country. Frank’s leadership and charisma personified him. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War; after discharge he came to Long Island, Joan’s home, eventually settling in Wantagh where they lived for over 50 years. Frank was a member of the Nassau County Police Department from 1957 to 1985, rising through the ranks to Deputy Inspector. Known as “Fairway Frank,” he was an avid golfer, winning many tournaments and championships, some with his favorite golfing partner, Joan. Equally, he was a proud and supportive father, often seen in the basketball stands or practicing on the baseball field; he continued to delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
