Michael A Mistretta
7/1/1936 – 7/4/2026
Michael Mistretta passed away on July 4, 2026, at the age of 90. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Michael was born on July 1, 1936, in Jackson Heights, NY, and lived there with his parents, sister and twin brother until they moved to Flushing, NY. After high school, he completed boot camp for the US Marine Corp Reserves and served in the Reserves for several years. He was very proud of this accomplishment and considered enlisting in the Marines. Instead, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became a Local 3 Union Electrician. He was very skilled at his trade and worked as an electrician for 35 years.
He married Rosemarie on September 10, 1960. After two children and a third one on the way, they moved to East Meadow on Long Island in 1963. Rosemarie predeceased him in 1988. He lived in East Meadow until the end of 2023. In 2024, he moved to Carteret, NJ.
Michael was always willing to help family and friends with any kind of home improvement. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. Over the years, he participated in bowling and golf. For anyone who knew his temperament, sometimes it was better for him to be a spectator rather than a participant. He was a car enthusiast with a varied collection of replica models. He especially favored cars from the 1950″s. Later in life, he became an avid cat lover and enjoyed doting on his cats, Whiskers, Thelma and Louise.
Michael is survived by his children, LuAnn (John), Michael (Cindy) and Anthony; his grandsons, Joseph and Dominic; his twin brother, Edward; and his nieces and nephews.; his longtime companion, Ivette; her children, Steven, Gia (Bobby); and her grandson, Ryan. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathryn.
