Pamela Jo-Cassal Solberg
12/23/1947 – 3/15/2025
Pamela Jo-Cassal Solberg of Seaford, NY, died peacefully on March 15, 2025, in Hallandale
Beach, Florida.
The summary of Joey’s book would read of an adventurous, strong, good-hearted, enduring, and honest woman. Pamela Jo-Cassal Solberg, affectionately known as Pam or Joey, was born on December 23, 1947, in Pendleton, Oregon, to Warren and Helen Cassal. She was a cherished Christmas gift to her parents and sister Sherry Kay. Pam spent her early years in Pilot Rock, Oregon, just 15 miles from Pendleton. The family often spent summers and some Christmas holidays on her grandparents’ cattle ranch in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. It was there that “Pammy” discovered her lifelong love of horses. Her father, who had grown up on the ranch, taught her to ride, train, and care for horses. He bought her Sunny, a colt, when she was old enough to care for him, and he became her favorite.
Her story continued as the family moved between Oregon and Washington and eventually settled back in Pilot Rock. In 1957, their father died in an auto accident. About a year later, their mother remarried, and the family moved to Southern California. Pam and her sister used their stepfather’s surname Hamersky for school, but by choice, they were not adopted. Pam started junior high in Fullerton, graduated Fullerton Union High School and later attended Cal State Fullerton, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and jokingly claimed a “minor in cheerleading.”
Joey’s next chapter followed another passion: travel. Her career with the airline TWA allowed her to explore the world alongside her best friend and roommate, Kathy. They traveled extensively, making the most of stop-over trips to play tourists. Along her journey, thanks to her best friend, she met the love of her life Robert Solberg. They married on April 12, 1996, on an awesome adventure to Belize. “Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while” – The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Pam’s adventurous spirit and love for new experiences were evident in her flying career. After years of flying, Pam transitioned to a role in HR for TWA, where she interviewed, trained, and managed flight attendants. Her dedication and leadership skills shone brightly in this role. Upon retiring from TWA, she became a VP in charge of human resources and facilities management at a sizable mortgage bank, where she was the only woman on a board of nine male VPs—a notable achievement at the time. Later in her career, Pam worked as a Human Resources Consultant before joining a travel agency, which allowed her to continue her passion for travel by exploring new convention and traveler opportunities.
The summary of Joey’s book would read of an adventurous, strong, good-hearted, enduring, and honest woman. Open-minded with her approach to people and situations. Her experiences in her life shaped her into a woman with a strong sense of justice. She would find it impossible to stand back and observe any kind of unfairness (making for an exceptional HR VP). She was never a hypocrite applying that same strict sense of right and wrong to her own thinking and behaviors—being harder on herself than anyone else. With patience, wisdom and practicality she kept her feet firmly on the ground. Inspiring others with her thoughtfulness, empathy or sympathy people would seek her out for advice. “It is only in the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Le Petit Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery.
Pam was generous with her gift-giving, always thoughtful of others' personal tastes and humor. She was an avid reader, devoted dog owner, and held a deep appreciation for horses, nature and Japanese art. She was seldom seen without an elegant hat adorning her long, beautiful brown hair. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all who met her.
Pam is survived by her loving husband, Robert Solberg, and her loving sister, Sherry Cassal
Bradshaw, along with their families. To know Pam was to love her. She will be remembered as fun, funny, smart, strong, sensitive, and beautiful. Joey’s story is one of adventure, love, and unwavering strength. Her legacy will continue to inspire and bring joy to those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers donations to North Shore Animal League or Plant-A-Tree Program will be appreciated.
