John Stephen Keeney

OBITUARY
John Stephen Keeney
1934 – 2023
John Stephen Keeney, a native of Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland, passed away on November 13, 2023 at the age of 88. John was born on December 27, 1934 to Sonny and Aggie Keeney. He is predeceased in 2007 by his loving and adoring Wife Kathleen (nee Breslin). John is the devoted and loving Father to his children Mary, John Gerard and Dymphna and Father-in-Law to John Shannon, John Hurley and Christine Kennedy. John is also the proud and cherished Grandfather of Meghan, Mairead, Shane, Catie, Declan and Kayla. He is also the loving and revered Brother of Charles, James, Mary Phyllis, Michael, Packie, Goretti, Kieran and Ronnie, as well as the proud Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
John retired in 1997 as an Engineer for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation after 22 years of dedicated and exemplary service in Brooklyn, New York. A weaver by trade in his native Ireland, John was selected to travel to New York City to the World’s Fair in 1957 to demonstrate the craft at this globally significant event. He made additional trips to the U.S. before he and Kathleen emigrated to the Boston, Massachusetts area in 1965, at which point he proudly became a full-fledged American citizen. They later settled in Queens, New York in 1967, where they raised their 3 children.
Back in Ireland, John was also well-known for his distinguished career in Gaelic Football, playing for Ardara’s local club and the County’s Junior and Senior teams. He won a historic championship in 1952 with the Minor team. It was, however, as a Club Officer and Coach where John made an indelible mark on the Gaelic Athletic Association (G.A.A.) in molding the younger generation into the sport. His tireless work and trailblazing translated to sustained and resounding success in the many years to come, continuing all the way to the present time.
In New York, John and Kathleen became members of the Donegal Association, for which he was honored to be elected Director in 2004. He was also honored with the Charlie Bennett Club Hall of Fame Award in 2003 for his outstanding contributions to the Club over many years.
John was a true gentleman who treated everyone who crossed his path with utmost respect, kindness and dignity. Having now been reunited with his Bride Kathleen, he will forever be remembered and live on in the hearts of his loving family and treasured friends.

Robert Abruzzo
OBITUARY

Robert Abruzzo
3/29/1952 – 11/6/2023
Bob was a big presence in all of our lives. He worked harder than most people do in a lifetime and his achievements will always be admired. His success will live on through his 5 daughters, Dawn, Stacy, Jill, Samantha and Alex, who learned from him that they can do anything they put their minds to.
We hope that he’s remembered by his big smile, infectious laugh and his love for his family. May he rest in eternal peace and watch over all of us alongside our lost family and friends. When we look to the ocean- We’ll always think of you, Dad.
In lieu of flowers donations to Tunnel to Towers Foundation will be appreciated.

Doris Sullivan
OBITUARY
Doris Sullivan
3/5/1922 – 10/26/2023
Doris Sullivan died October 26 at her home in East Meadow, NY. She was 101 years old. Doris was born in Woodhaven, New York to John and Johanna Archer. She enjoyed summers at Broad Channel beach, where she first met Thomas “Tom” Sullivan, “the love of my life.” They married in 1945, after Tom returned from service in the Army Air Force. In 1951, Doris and Tom moved from Woodhaven to the Forest City section of Wantagh, where they raised five children, and lived for nearly 60 years. In 2010, they moved to the Knolls in East Meadow.
Doris exemplified love, kindness, generosity, and compassion, and shared a marvelous sense of humor. She will forever be an inspiration for all who knew her. Doris was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and the Sullivan home was always a gathering place for family and friends of all ages. She was an original and ever loyal Mets’ fan and loved family outings to Shea Stadium. Doris and Tom were founding parishioners and active members of St. Frances de Chantal R.C. Church in Wantagh. Doris was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and in her later years served in the Homebound Eucharistic ministry and Hospice ministry.
Doris and Tom enjoyed traveling, especially during the twenty-five years following Tom’s retirement. They had friends everywhere; many were veterans who had served with Tom in World War II. Over the years they visited forty-seven of the fifty states – an experience that deepened their appreciation of the beauty and vastness of the United States. A highlight of their travels was the month they spent in Ireland during the summer of 1985 in a castle with Sullivan and Broderick cousins.
Doris was predeceased by Tom in 2012. She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Basil, Patricia Sullivan, Mary Sullivan-Lester (Richard Lester), Eileen Sullivan (Scott Shostak), her son Thomas “Tom” Sullivan Jr. (Leslie), and her grandchildren Dawn Garcynski (Steven), Connor Lester, Taylor Lester, Thomas “TJ” Sullivan III, Andrew Sullivan, Aidan Sullivan, and Elena Shostak.
There will be a visitation at the Wantagh Abbey (3374 Park Avenue) on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and a funeral mass at St. Frances de Chantal Church on Tuesday at 12:30.
The family would like to suggest that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the St. Frances de Chantal Outreach.
